News Channel 11’s Micah Smith road with Lee County Sheriff’s deputies and has reported that only eight out of 37 people are still wanted on drug charges.
According to a LCSO news release, the roundup follows a 12-month investigation involving the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, Lee County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office, Pennington Gap Police Department and members of the Southwest Virginia Drug Task Force resulted in the charges, most of which were presented to a Lee County Grand Jury earlier this week.
Lee County Sheriff Gary Parson s said this roundup is only the first round of indictments and said the investigation is ongoing.
“I know the public gets frustrated knowing that there are people they know are dealing drugs and seem to never get caught,” Parsons said. “We, in law enforcement, do as well, but we have to put together a case that can be won in court and that takes time and manpower. I assure you we are doing everything possible to take dealers off the streets. Sooner or later they are going down.”
