The mammoth announcement at Virginia Tech will probably end up in medical journals all across the country. Hokies All-American Devin Carter returns to the mats this week--12 weeks after surgery to repair a torn hamstring, and another full 12 weeks ahead of the normal rehab timeline. Hokies team surgeon Tony McPharron described Devin as "a freak." But McPharron explained that the two-time ACC champion junior is 100 percent recovered, and the criteria for athletes returning is the athlete---not a calendar.

Carter's return forced a re-seed of his weight class and the conference promptly put him in as the number one seed at 141 pounds. The addition of Carter might be enough to swing the team title that Virginia Tech is trying desperately to defend. The Hokies lost duals to both Virginia and Pittsburgh and it is expected to be a three way battle for the team title in Blacksburg Saturday. All of Carter's teammates, and head coach Kevin Dresser say that Carter is the quiet team leader, and to have him back in the room is a huge boost for the rest of the squad. The Hokies still managed a #16 national ranking with Carter missing most of the season.  Spots in the NCAA tournament are up for grabs beginning at 10am Saturday.

Dresser's background includes 10 straight state titles at Christiansburg. The Blue Demons have continued the tradition with three more under coach Daryl Weber--you can see the WSLS-10 feature on the Blue Demons domination by clicking here!.
