Lenoir County groups come together for first education summit

KINSTON, N.C. - Several county groups come together to talk education.
On Monday, the Lenoir County Board of Commissioners, Board of Education, and Lenoir County Community College officials came together for the county's first education summit. .

The goal of Monday night’s education summit was to bring together county leaders, education officials, and the public to discuss the future of Lenoir County schools.
County Commissioner Chairman, Craig Hill, helped spearhead this event. Hill said they county and school officials started talking about holding a summit about three months ago.

Lenoir Community College President, Brantley Briley, said he was excited to be asked to participate in the summit.

"For me  personally, it's to hear what others have to say, and see if I can take those ideas and make them operational," said Briley.

Hill said the main goal of the summit was to get everyone on the same page when it comes the education of Lenoir County students.  Hill said Monday's summit also give commissioners a leg up for upcoming budget talks.

"It gives us an opportunity to look at what the needs are based solely on what we are trying to accomplish.  Having this meeting out front gets us all on the same page about what the expectations  are and what our community needs are," said Hill.
