Zippity Doo Dah weekend comes to a close with a parade to honor Vietnam Veterans.

"They came back people didn't want to honor them because there were so many people opposed to the war," says Brett Monteghy, who is the daughter of a Vietnam veteran.

Veterans walked along State Street in Jackson for a welcome home party nearly 40 years after returning from war.

"They went over there and they fought and did it for our county," says Lisa King who goes to the Zippity Doo Dah Parade every year.

For Monteghy, the honor hits close to home. "My dad is a Vietnam veteran. He died when I was five. So this is really cool to be able to honor him today."

Zippity Doo Dah is a fundraiser for Mississippi's only children's hospital, Blaire E. Batson.

"It brings a lot of money for the hospital, recognition for the hospital and a lot of smiles to a lot of faces," says Scott Overby, who serves on the board for the hospital.

Last year the Zippity Doo Dah festivities raised nearly 100 thousand dollars. Organizers are hoping to top that this year.
