Pasco tax collector urges motorists not to choose two-year tag renewal

Posted: Updated:

Pasco County Tax Collector Mike Fasano is urging motorists not to opt for a two year license plate tag renewal.

Right now, a bill is sitting on Governor Rick Scott's desk that could reduce tag fees by about $25 per vehicle. If the governor signs that bill, the lower fees would take effect on September 1st.

Fasano says auto owners who elect to renew their tags for two years could miss out on those savings.

"We have almost 800 thousand auto owners in the state that renew every two years, here in Pasco County, it's almost nineteen thousand,” said Fasano. "Instead of seeing savings either the end of this year when this law goes into effect September 1st, they won't see savings either in 2015, they'll have to wait until 2016 to see savings."

If you've already renewed your license tag and went with the two year renewal, Fasano says, unfortunately, you're out of luck.

"If you even renewed your auto tag yesterday, and you renewed it for two years, you won't see savings until March of 2016,” said Fasano.
