A train derailed early Friday (3-28-14) morning in Jones County. The accident happened around 4:15 a.m. under the Highway 590 overpass. That's near Jones Community College in Ellisville. Heavy machinery has been brought in to try to clear the scene. It could take a while. The train is more than 100 cars long. About 20 cars came off the track. Two cars are completely off. It's not clear what caused the accident. First responders have been working on the accident since well before dawn. There is no official word yet of any injuries, and it does not appear that this accident will lead to any type of environmental disaster. Volunteers and staff from the American Red Cross East Central and South Mississippi Chapters are providing on scene canteen support. They will continue to provide food and beverages for just as long as they are needed. All Red Cross support is free. It is made possible by voluntary donations of time and money by the American people. Jones County Emergency Manager Marda Tullos requested the Red Cross canteen services to support the responders. We have had a reporter, on the scene since, early Friday morning, and will continue to update this story, as new details become available both on air and on-line.
