Two former Snow Hill volunteer EMS workers arrested

SNOW HILL, N.C. - Two former Snow Hill Volunteer Emergency Management Services employees were arrested and charged with felony embezzlement.

Sue Ann Farmer, 51, and Patsy Carraway Ransom, 59, face one charge of felony embezzlement.

Arrest records show Ransom is accused of embezzling $132,700.72 from the Snow Hill Volunteer EMS. Police say Farmer is accused of taking $16,000  from the volunteer department.

Arrest records show the embezzlement occurred while both woman were Snow Hill EMS volunteers from June 2011 until Oct. 2013.

Greene County officials say Ransom was first hired as a full-time basic Emergency Management Technician in 2004. Since then she worked in various part-time positions, including as an inspector and jailer.

East Carolina University officials tell 9 On Your Side, Ransom also spent time as dispatcher for ECU Police from September 2013 until Mar. 14th. of this year.

Greene County officials say Farmer began working for them as a full-time  intermediate Emergency Management Technician in 2007. Farmer was switched to a part-time dispatcher for the Greene County Sheriff'sn 2011.

Ransom and Farmer were arrested on March 19th, 2014.

Greene County officials say both woman's last day employed with the county was March 19th.

Ransom and Farmer have since bonded out of jail. Their next court appearance is scheduled for May 2, 2014.
