GREENVILLE, N.C. - Pitt County welcomes 20 chaplains to the Pitt County Sheriff’s Office Chaplain’s Program.

After seven months of classroom and field training, 20 chaplains from across Pitt County graduated from the first chaplain course at the sheriff's office on Saturday.

The program is volunteer-based that provides a ministry of guidance and counseling to the employees and volunteers of the sheriff’s office.

Chaplains will provide our law enforcement families a trusted source of confidence and encouragement day in and day out, in good times and in bad.

Chaplains also assist the sheriff's office in notifying individuals who have lost a family member in an unexpected manner.

Sheriff Neil Elks delivered the keynote, thanking the chaplain's for their dedication to this program and their willingness to service.

More than 100 friends, family, and supporters gathered to witness the presentation of the certificates.
