2 Grifton women busted for dealing drugs, inactive meth lab

GRIFTON, N.C. - An investigation into the illegal sale of prescription narcotics led to the arrest of two women.

It happened March 28 at a residence on Tick Bite Road, where deputies also say they found an inactive meth lab.

Deputies with the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office say they began the investigation on March 6 with the purchase of 20 methadone pills from 63-year-old Mary Jane Talley. They made a second purchase of 20 prescription oxycodone pills from Talley on the 28th.

Talley, of Grifton, was arrested and charged with manufacturing methamphetamine, conspiring to sell/deliver schedule II controlled substance, trafficking schedule II by selling, trafficking schedule II by possession and maintaining a dwelling for controlled substances.  She was placed in the Lenoir County Detention Center under a $260,000 secured bond.

24-year-old Christine Michelle McLawhorn, also of Grifton, was arrested as part of the investigation and was charged with trafficking schedule II.  She was also placed in the Lenoir County Detention Center under a $50,000 secured bond.

“Our continued effort to identify and arrest suspects involved in drug sales has succeeded once again.  It is not unusual to work one type of narcotics case and to eventually find the same suspects potentially involved in other types of narcotics.  My narcotics investigators, working with information from the community, did an outstanding job.  This case is an example of the community identifying a problem or issue within their community and my office working to remove that problem.  I also want to thank the members of Hugo Fire & Rescue, the NCSBI and Lenoir County Emergency Services for their assistance in this investigation,” commented Sheriff Chris Hill stated.
