New Bern shooting suspect had long criminal history

Posted: Updated:
NEW BERN, N.C. - Bryan Stallings, also known as "William Ellison" and "Flute" was no stranger to law enforcement. He had a long criminal history dating back almost 20 years.

It appears Stallings first run in with the law came in Craven County in 1996. He was convicted of drug possession and resisting an officer.

Stallings also has a criminal past in Florida. He became a registered sex offender in 2000 and between 2000 and 2001 was charged multiple times for drug offenses and resisting an officer.

In January 2001, Stallings was charged with smuggling contraband into a detention center and five months later was charged with felony battery in a detention facility.

Stallings served time for these charges in a Florida prison until his release in February of 2008.

Two days after being released in 2008, Stallings was back in trouble with the law, facing charges of battery of a firefighter, false imprisonment, and resisting an officer with violence.

And in September of 2008, Stallings was arrested in Craven Terrace for trespassing because he had previously been banned from the area. He was charged with resisting an officer in that case as well.

Stallings also had an outstanding warrant in Florida at the time.

He was then transferred back to Florida, where he was sentenced to 10 years, and served time from May of 2010 until December 2012.
