WASHINGTON, N.C. - Wednesday night family and friends of the New Bern officer killed in the line of the duty over the weekend gathered in his hometown of Washington.

Alexander Thalmann’s mother thanked the hundreds of people that came from across eastern North Carolina to honor his legacy.  She spoke about her son’s love for the job.  “I'm so happy that he was doing something he loved doing because so many people don't, and I want to thank you all for coming. thank you,” said Stacey Thalmann.

Dezmond Ross was a childhood friend of Officer Thalmann.  He says even though his friend is no longer here physically, he will never forget him,  “He may be gone, but never lost. He’s always watching over us,” said Ross.

Visitations are taking place Thursday in Washington at Hillside Funeral Service on HWY 264 from 2pm-4pm and 6pm-9pm.

Friday Thalmann’s funeral will be held at the Temple Baptist Church at 2pm.  A motorcade will carry the officer through downtown New Bern down US-17 to Washington, where Thalmann will be buried.
