A young girl in the backseat of a car stolen this morning in Jackson is now safe.
JACKSON, MS -
Four-year-old Makenzie McNeil was in the back seat of her aunt's 2007 Nissan Sentra when it was stolen from a daycare Friday morning. The little girl's aunt was bringing another child to the daycare when she left Makenzie in the car that was still running around 9 a.m. Makenzie is the granddaughter of a Hind's County deputy. "We run through these kind of cases all the time and for it to be your very own you're more experienced on how people are feeling when it happens to them," says Greg McNeil, the child's grandfather. Makenzie's aunt called the Jackson Police Department when she saw the car and child were gone. JPD then put out a tip, that was when a Hind's County deputy was waved down on Moss Avenue and found the car with the child inside. "I guess he got scared and found out there was a baby in the car and decided to just ditch the car," says McNeil. The car was found up on a curb on Moss Avenue about 30 minutes after it was reported missing. However, the suspect fled the vehicle and has not been found, but the family is confident he will be found soon. "We might not be able to find him today, but we will still be looking ,so he will probably have a warrant out and somewhere down the line we will catch that person. We might not know who he is, but we will catch him doing something else," says McNeil. Makenzie was not injured.
