RALEIGH, N.C. -

Just a month ago, the Triangle had high temperatures in the upper 30s and the trees were bare.

Fast forward a month and the birds are chipping, bees are buzzing and the trees are blooming.

But this also means pollen.

“I go out in the morning and it’s yellow,” said Raleigh resident Carol Otten.

The harsh winter could mean more pollen this season.

“There's just been a lot of precipitation. There was snow and ice, so there's more moisture,” said

Dr. Robin Burnette with Boylan Healthcare. “And that increased moisture has increased a lot of the pollen."

Burnette is seeing it affect her patients.

“We're going to just see more severe, probably more people that didn't have problems before that are going to be having problems now," she said.

Burnette said the secret is to stay ahead of your symptoms.

“Make sure to start taking those medications. Check in with your doctor and get those refills going to get those symptoms under control," she said.
