WASHINGTON COUNTY, TN (WJHL) - Prom season is special for most high school students and Friday night the biggest dance of the year got started in style.

It's called Joy Prom, an annual spring celebration for people with special needs and their families.

If you've ever been to Joy Prom you know it's all about how you arrive, from the drive up, to the red carpet

Prom guests are greeted in true Hollywood style, but that's just the beginning.

Tiaras, a nail salon, even a quick shoe shine for the guys. It's truly a special night for guests and those who volunteer to make it happen.

"We like to see the joy on their faces and they bring us joy," said Access Ministry Coordinator Becca Fox.

"It doesn't matter if you're a participant or a volunteer, you will come away from this event blessed."

And the prom guests? They're having a little fun too.

"Very exciting. It's very like hollywood. I really love it," said prom guest Rachel Pickle.

It's an evening that pretty much has it all, so they'll take plenty of pictures and smile, a lot of smiles.

And give a quick shout out, "I want to say hello to Josh Smith, Sara Diamond and Nate", before they leave it all out on the dance floor.

Last night's Joy Prom entertained more than 900 guests and families. Nearly 300 volunteered their time to make it all happen.
