Grifton's Shad Festival closes out its 44th year

GRIFTON, N.C. - The 44th Shad Festival wrapped up on Sunday in Grifton.

The festival is one of the longest running in North Carolina.

"We named it after the shad, which is a fish that actually runs through Grifton in Contentnea Creek. That at was started a long time ago, and we just kept the tradition going," said event coordinator Cyndy Graham.

Shad Festival featured performances, vendors, rides, and an art show.

This year's theme was 'Mo' says no!(to substance abuse).

Graham says the festival is usually held the third week in April, but was moved up because of the Easter holiday.
