RALEIGH, N.C. -

Some of the areas brightest entrepreneurs gathered at HQ Raleigh Friday morning to talk innovation.

Local leaders and guests spoke about the importance of social entrepreneurship in the university, government, and private sectors.

David Gergen, professor of public service at the Havard Kennedy School, said he was impressed by what he experienced at the meeting and in Raleigh.

“I grew up in Durham and I remember when Durham and Raleigh were pretty sleepy little places, and now there's a sense of vibrancy, and a sense that the future can be much better,” said Gergen.

Gergen also serves as a political analyst for CNN. He said rallies such as Moral Monday are a good thing for democracy.

“Democracy is not meant to be a quiet little affair. It is often raucous. That is, in some ways, can be off putting or alienating when you see people rallying against and groups fighting back a little, but it's a healthy thing. We need dialogue,” he said.

The event was also attended by Raleigh Mayor Nancy McFarlane, North Carolina State University Chancellor Randy Woodson and President and CEO of Seventh Generation John Replogle.
