NEW PORT RICHEY, FL (WFLA) - New Port Richey's infamous squatter posted his $5,000 bond Friday afternoon, and went right back to the scene of the crime.

Julio Ortiz was arrested Monday on a grand theft charge of stealing electricity at the soldier's home where he was squatting.

Neighbors called the Pasco County Sheriff's Office Friday night to report Ortiz and his friend were back at Spc. Michael Sharkey's house.

Sgt. Mike Jones said Ortiz was found at a neighbor's house. He and his friend were both issued trespass warnings.

8 On Your Side exposed Ortiz and his girlfriend living in the home without the soldier's permission for more than a year.

The stories outraged veterans and the community. Public pressure led the squatters to leave in the middle of the night last week.

Then, Duke Energy discovered the squatters had enjoyed more than free rent. Duke said they also stole thousands of dollars worth of electricity while they were there.

Ortiz' girlfriend, Fatima Cardoso, is still in the county jail and cannot yet post bond because her arrest was a violation of probation.
