HIGH POINT, N.C. -
Police say they have investigated five heroin overdose deaths in the past two months.
Investigators also say 20 people have gone to High Point Regional Hospital in the past week for suspected heroin overdoses.
Authorities say the cases don't seem to be linked and haven't been found in just one area of the city.
Investigators say stronger batches of heroin have been entering the country over the past few months and may have ended up in the area.
Police plan to crack down on heroin dealers and they encourage anyone addicted to drugs to seek out local drug counseling centers. (Copyright 2014 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed.)
