HINDS COUNTY, Miss. - Authorities arrested a Hinds County Detention officer after they found drugs in his coat at the facility.
Officials said 28-year-old Desmon Funchess entered the Raymond Detention Center for his shift just before 2 p.m.
Authorities said it's standard procedure to search all employees. When entering the jail, officials said Funchess placed his coat on a chair before going through the search process. Another officer picked up the coat and discovered a taped bundle of tobacco, marijuana, morphine pills, a cell phone and a cell phone charger.
Sheriff officials said Funchess worked for Judge Gowan and was reassigned to the Raymond Detention Center because of work policy violations there about four months ago.
He is being charged with the introduction of contraband into a correctional facility.
