Jamesville man arrested in death of Martin County teen

WILLIAMSTON, N.C. - Williamston Police have arrested a man in the May murder of a Martin County teen.

Police tell us 23-year-old Simon Perry Arrants of Jamesville was arrested around 1:45 Friday afternoon. Arrants is charged with an open count of murder for the death of 19-year-old Timothy Lloyd Baylor III.

On May 23, Baylor was found with a gunshot wound in the 200 block of Martin Street. He was transported to Martin General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Arrants was held without bond at the Bertie-Martin Regional Jail. Police say he has a pending court date of Monday, June 9 in Martin County District Court.

The Williamston Police Department is looking for the suspect(s) responsible for the shooting death of a Bertie County teenager.  

According to Detective Lieutenant Clint Davis, 19-year-old Timothy Lloyd Baylor III, of Windsor, was shot Friday night.

Police got the call around 9:40 p.m. and found Baylor with a gunshot wound in the 200 block of Martin Street. Baylor was transported to Martin General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

9 On Your Side spoke to Baylor's older sister Sasha Swain. Swain says she and her family rushed to the hospital after they received a phone call that Baylor had been shot. 

"We didn't know what was wrong, how bad he was, and the doctor's weren't saying anything. We just had to wait," said Swain. 

After hours of waiting, Swain says the doctor's finally told her mom Baylor had passed away.

On Sunday, family and friends gathered at Baylor's mother's home in Windsor. Meanwhile, friends placed flowers and a cross where Baylor was shot and killed. Friends spent the day remembering the man they called "Wiz."

"He kept everybody laughing.  He was a really cool guy," said one of Baylor's friends. 

Baylor leaves behind a three-month-old baby. 

Williamston Police are working with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation on this case.
