"Generators, batteries, extra canned goods."

Mississippi residents are checking their lists to make sure they have all the essentials this hurricane season.

"We think about having water, having food, gassing up the cars before a hurricane hits and just having a plan in place." says Tonia McKenzie

Greg Flynn, spokesperson for the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency says they're ready at the state level.

"To a government level, we're prepared. We just need the citizens to be ready because we can only do so much."

Flynn says homeowners, business owners and residents throughout the state should prepare for the threat of hurricanes.

"Our motto is, it only takes one. Be prepared and take every threat seriously."

Which shouldn't be a problem for Scott and McKenzie.

"Generator, canned food, flashlights, everything that we need to keep us going. For at least a couple of days." says Scott

"After hurricane Katrina, we were without gas for weeks, so we just think about all of those things." says McKenzie

Hurricane season officially runs from June 1st to November 30th.
