Local Woodworkers Make A Difference For The Furniture Bank

Posted: Updated:
COLUMBUS, Ohio - A local organization is donating their time and skills to help fill the homes of those in need with furniture.

Volunteers from all walks of life have given their time and skills to the Furniture Bank of Central Ohio.

"We've got a lot of people that are pretty skilled," said Lou Gatch, one of the many volunteers.

Most of the volunteers say they are retired and are now giving back with their free time.

"It's really gratifying to know you're helping people," said Mike Quinn, another volunteer.

Approximately 15,000 hours have been logged by the Woodworkers of Central Ohio, making furniture for the furniture bank.

“I love it and will probably always do it,” said Gatch.

The Woodworkers of Central Ohio have members into their 80s. They work in the furniture bank's wood shop a couple days each week, and have built furniture worth more than $200,000 since 2011.
