DURHAM, N.C. -

After years of planning and an investment from the community, the historic south side neighborhood of Durham has a new look.

Friday morning, city leaders held a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the area's revitalization. The first of 48 single family homes have been built and sold. The neighborhood is adjacent to downtown Durham and city leaders said a fresh look to the area was crucial.

"We want to make sure the progress in Durham continues," said Director of Community Development Reginald J. Johnson. "You are only as strong as your weakest neighborhoods and this is one of the areas that needed some improvement."

More homes are currently under construction in the area. Twenty lots have already been sold or reserved.
