RALEIGH, N.C. -

A Cary girl sold a whopping 4,750 boxes of Girl Scout Cookies to be the top overall seller for 2014 for the North Carolina Coastal Pines region.

Xena Gray was honored with a trophy at a ceremony May 31 in Wilson along with the girls who finished second and third.

Gray, at East Cary Middle School, has been in the Girl Scouts since 2005.

Emerson Fipps of Winterville, N.C., placed second with 4,005 boxes sold, and Antonina Quellhorst of Fayetteville, N.C., placed third with 4,000 boxes sold.

The Girl Scout Cookie Program generates $790 million in annual sells.

“The Cookie program teaches Girl Scouts skills that will help them grown into leaders in their own life, leaders in business and leaders in the world,” said Lisa Jones, chief executive officer of Girl Scouts – North Carolina Coastal Pines. “We are excited to honor and celebrate the leaders of this year’s cookie program.”

The Coastal Pines region sold nearly 3.1 million boxes of cookies with approximately 13,200 Girl Scouts participating in the 2014 Cookie Sale Program. Approximately 1,800 girls sold more than 400 boxes of cookies each, the Girl Scouts said.

Additionally, 278 girls sold more than 1,000 boxes each. Council-wide the average number of boxes sold per girl was 234. Nationally the average number of boxes sold by Girl Scouts is 135.

Girl Scout Taylor Williams of Raleigh, N.C., was also recognized at the event for selling the most boxes of cookies for the council’s Operation Cookie Drop program which provides cookies to deployed military personnel. Williams sold 733 boxes for Operation Cookie Drop and 3,803 boxes for the overall sale. During the 2014 Cookie Sale program, Girl Scouts across central and eastern North Carolina collected enough donations for the program to purchase 82,164 boxes of cookies.
