A former Northwest Rankin High School teacher and football coach has been arrested after a child exploitation investigation.

Flowood Police say 24-year old Cory Childress was taken into custody on Tuesday and charged with exploitation of a minor.

They say it happened during Childress’ first year at Northwest Rankin.

Their investigation states that he was contacting female students through electronic devices.

Childress appeared in Flowood Municipal Court, Thursday morning where he waived his preliminary hearing and was placed on $100,000 bond.

He’s currently in the Rankin County Jail while awaiting a grand jury.

The police say Childress could face more charges as the investigation continues.

All electronic devices used in connection to the case were sent to the Attorney General’s Cyber Crime Unit for further analysis.
