JACKSON, MS - Michael Bay has done it again, and by "it", we mean he's filled our movie screens with shape-shifting robots, explosions, and American flags. But does the latest transformation of the movie franchise do the robots justice? Or more importantly, should you spend your money on seeing it?
BRET - I have to say "Skip It" on this one. I'd hoped that I would be surprised this time around, and while Stanley Tucci and Mark Wahlberg were great additions to the franchise, they just couldn't overcome the usual problems: poor writing, wildly inaccurate explosions, plot holes, and a weak female lead. It also bugs me when they blow up thousands of innocent bystanders in order to save one or two human "friends".
JOE - I agree with Bret. "Skip It". Had this movie been 45 minutes shorter, I might be able to give it my recommendation, but this clocked in at over two and a half hours. That's longer than the movie "Lincoln", which means Hollywood took more time explaining a story about talking robots punching each other than it did telling the story of how slavery was abolished in the United States. This one's just way too long to enjoy.
