JACKSON, Miss. - After weeks of controversy and national attention, the family of Victoria Wilcher has turned down KFC's $30,000, according to the family's attorney Bill Kellum.
Kellum said the family did not think it would be appropriate to accept the money.
Victoria's family claimed that an employee at a Jackson area KFC asked them to leave the restaurant because her facial injuries were frightening other patrons. Victoria was badly injured in April during a pit bull attack at her grandfather's home.
KFC offered the family $30,000 to go towards her medical bills.
More controversy was sparked after a Laurel, Mississippi newspaper reported that the family's story was a hoax. KFC conducted a full internal investigation and hired a third party consultant to look into the matter. A KFC spokesman said they did not find any evidence supporting the family's allegations in both investigations.
