New food pantry opens in Bethel

BETHEL, N.C. -

A new food pantry opened in Bethel for those in need of some help.

People lined up outside the Bethel Senior Center on Main Street Friday hours before it opened.

The Churches Outreach Network, the Town of Bethel and the North Carolina Food Bank partnered up to make it possible.

Organizers say they'll open the 2nd and 4th Friday of every month.

“I mean if we can just help them just a little bit, let's just do that." Rodney Coles, a pastor with the Churches Outreach Network said.

Bethel is one of only a couple of towns in Pitt County without access to a grocery store. About 33% of those who live there also live with incomes below the poverty line.
