Cary woman pleads guilty in strangling death of husband

CARY, N.C. -

A Cary woman accused of strangling her husband is now out of jail and on probation.

On May 8, 2013, then 61-year-old Dottie Amtey told police she strangled her ailing, 77-year-old husband, Sharad Amtey inside their home on Carbon Hill Court.

Amtey was initially jailed on a charge of second-degree murder.

Attorneys in the case said Amtey pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter on May 16.

She was sentenced to 38-58 months in prison. But she got credit for six months served and was placed on 36 months of probation and released.

Attorneys said they don't expect any future charges in the case.
