Ayden restaurant named top 10 BBQ place in the South

AYDEN, N.C. -

Skylight Inn in Ayden was listed as one of the top 10 places for barbeque in the South by USA Today.

Skylight Inn has been a staple in Ayden since 1947, serving up between 5,000 and 6,500 pounds of pork every week.

The pork is smoked for 16 hours over oak wood before it hits your plate.

Samuel Jones, who's family owns the restaurant, says being listed as a top BBQ place in the South is an honor, but isn't the most important thing to them.

"We've been fortunate enough over the years to be mentioned with some of the heavy hitters in barbeque as I call it," Jones said. "And I think it's because we've stayed true to what made us successful in the first place, which is keeping the focus on the food not the hype."
