Roanoke (WSLS) - On nice, sunny days a lot of people spend time enjoying the outdoors, but a local woman has made it her mission to make sure everyone, especially teens, take care of their skin when they're outside.

Chelsea Dawson has taken her battle with cancer and put it in writing to help others.

Since the last time we talked to her "Adventures with My Enemy Melanoma" blog has drastically grown in popularity, getting thousands of hits a week.

Chelsea was diagnosed at just 23-years-old with cancer after tanning since she was 14. Chelsea never thought being a voice for melanoma would be her calling.

“I did shut down.  I did not want to talk about it.  When my mom saw some of those signs she encouraged me to write and it took off from there. I share because I want other people to see just how dangerous tanning is and the importance of sun safety and just because you're 18 does not mean it can't happen to you,” Chelsea said.

July is UV Awareness Month, so Chelsea really wants to hit home with teens on the importance of keeping your skin safe.
