2 Rankin County Schools Burglarized Over the Weekend; $500 Reward Offered

Posted: Updated:
RANKIN COUNTY, Miss. - Rankin County authorities are on the trail of burglars who broke into two schools over the weekend.

The crimes happened Saturday night around 10:30 p.m. Investigators say as many as three people broke into Pisgah Elementary and Pisgah High schools.

Surveillance video shows three men or boys riding bikes around the property during the time of the incident. Authorities say they are considered persons of interest.

Three buildings at the high school were broken into, according to the sheriff's department. They say the suspects came through the school through a locked window in one of the classrooms and through a second building by removing a window air conditioner. They also broke several doors.

The elementary school was broken into that same night. The sheriff's department says the suspects came in the elementary school by busting out a glass door. The suspects went inside two classrooms, some offices, the library, and the cafeteria. Deputies say money is missing from the elementary school's office and cafeteria.

Deputies say nearly a dozen doors were damaged or completely destroyed. They estimate the damage is worth thousands of dollars.

If you know anything about this crime, the Rankin County Sheriff's Department would like to hear from you. The school is offering a $500 reward for information that would lead to the arrest and conviction of the people involved in this case.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 601-355-TIPS or the sheriff's department at 601-825-1480
