TAMPA, FL (WFLA) -

Chances are you have seen the ALS "Ice Bucket Challenge" videos that have gone viral all over the internet and now the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Lightning, Rays, and USF Bulls have all posted videos and pictures of their own.

ALS is better know as Lou Gehrig's Disease and Alissa Gutierrez says all the attention and help has been needed.

"It's crazy. We have not had this much publicity for ALS since Lou Gehrig was diagnosed in 1939, seventy-five years ago. This is just a God send," she said.

The videos have helped to raise more than ten million dollars and ALS Marketing Director Alissa Gutierrez says the videos have also helped to raise awareness about the fatal disease that doesn't have a cure.

"We don't have survivors in this disease. It's always fatal and our patients have two to five years to live," said Gutierrez.

"There's not a lot they can do in that time so this challenge as goofy as it sounds has given them a purpose. It's given them something to do. Even in their wheelchairs and pour a bucket of ice water over their heads. It's almost given them a vehicle to talk about the disease. Spread awareness and to raise money for the ALS Association Florida Chapter," she added.

Gutierrez wants to stress that when people participate in the challenge to please "Designate your challenge and your donations to the Florida chapter." she said "The money stays in Florida and the Florida chapter is the only ALS organization caring for patients in Florida as well as supporting research and advocacy efforts."
