Two juveniles escaped Saturday morning from the Henley-Young Youth Detention Center in Jackson.

Officers tell News Channel 12, they were called out to 600 east McDowell Road before 10 a.m. in response to two men escaping the detention center.

According to officials, the two juveniles escaped while playing basketball in the playgrounds of the center.

Officers say they were about to jump the fence surrounding the basketball court and knock the gate open.

Officers then secured the area around the detention center and searched the woods. The suspects then ran in front of the building.

JPD officers were told the Hinds County Sheriff Department would now be handling the case.
