David Edelstein joined the WJTV 12 News team as Sports Anchor/Reporter in April 2022. Though, after spending the previous seven years in Central New York, David says it already felt like August outside!
A graduate from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University, David is a passionate storyteller who enjoys meeting new people, connecting with the community and sharing the sporting moments that bring us all together!
Before moving to Mississippi, David worked as Sports Director at WUTR/WFXV/WPNY in Utica, NY where he covered the National Baseball Hall of Fame, the Utica Comets as they played to the best-ever start to a season in American Hockey League History, history-making runs for college and high school teams, and in-depth stories and highlights of local athletes of all levels. David also gained experience when he worked for NBCUniversal for the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics; the Rockland Boulders baseball team; and OrangeFizz.net, covering Syracuse basketball and football on The Score 1260 CBS Radio.
David is honored to have received recognition for his work across broadcast and digital media, and he is most proud of the relationships he has built with others in the community and in the newsroom.
David is originally from New Jersey, where he scored the winning run in his town’s fourth grade little league World Series (yes, ask for autographs). He was voted MVP of the Utica Frisbee Club for Week 2 of its 2021 season on May 23, 2021. He is also an FAA Part 107 Licensed Unmanned Aircraft Pilot, Isshin-ryu karate black belt and community service volunteer.
