A month after Hurricane Katrina, during the fourth weekend in September 2005, Hurricane Rita wreaked 36 hours of havoc in the ArkLaMiss area. 55 tornadoes were confirmed by the National Weather Service.

The strongest tornado the hurricane produced was classed as an F3 on the Fujita Scale with wind speeds estimated between 136-165 mph. 7 of the 55 tornadoes were rated an F2 with wind speeds estimated between 
111-135 mph. One person lost their life during the outbreak while sixteen others were hurt.
