Rankin County School District rolls back mask mandate

Coronavirus

RANKIN COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – On Wednesday, the Rankin County School District (RCSD) Board of Education voted to roll back the current mask mandate at schools.

According to a statement on the district’s website, face masks are “highly recommended” and no longer required. Leaders said the decision was made due to improved statistics over the last four weeks.

Back on August 9th the district switched from highly recommending mask to requiring them. They held another vote on August 25th to reevaluate their mask mandate. During this vote the decision was made to keep mask required because of the number of positive cases in quarantines among students and staff.

The District say they will continue to monitor data from the department of health and follow the Governors executive orders in making decisions going forward.
