JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Hinds County deputies are investigating a deadly shooting that happened in Edwards on Sunday, April 25.
Investigators responded to a home around 4:30 p.m. in the 3800 block of Middle Road after receiving a call about a domestic dispute involving a man who was allegedly assaulting his wife.
When deputies responded to the scene, they discovered 32-year-old Marcus Butler had been shot at the home. He died at the scene.
While at the scene, deputies encountered the suspect, a 27-year-old man. He was detained and taken to the Hinds County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division for questioning. Investigators said they recovered a pistol at the scene.
According to deputies, a 46-year-old woman said she has been assaulted by her husband, who was identified as Butler. She was taken in for questioning and treated for her injuries.
During the investigation, deputies learned that the shooter came to the location with a family member of the woman after learning that she was being assaulted by Butler. When they arrived, they allegedly witnessed Butler assault the woman. This led to an altercation between Butler and the shooter, which ended in the shooting.
Deputies aid two children were inside the home during the incident. They are believed to be the children of Butler, and they were transferred to the custody of their mother at the scene.
The shooter in this incident is not being identified at this time due to no criminal charges being pursued at this moment.
This investigation is ongoing and the results will be forwarded to the Hinds County District Attorney’s Office to present to a Grand Jury for further action.
