18-wheeler leaves road, hits tree in Copiah County

COPIAH COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – The driver of an 18-wheeler is in the hospital after losing control Saturday.

The 18-wheeler was traveling northbound on I-55 near mile marker 58 when the driver lost control, left the road and hit a tree according to Corporal Eric Henry with the Mississippi Highway Patrol.

That driver was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Cpl. Henry also says the driver falling asleep may have played a factor in the crash.

At this time, the left lane of I-55 is closed.

Corporal Henry expects it will take close to three hours to clean up the wreck.
