RANKIN COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) — Rankin County authorities said a 78-year-old woman who went missing Sunday has been found dead.

The sheriff’s department said Hattie Moore’s body was found around 8 p.m. in the Ross Barnett Reservoir.

They said Moore was at her daughter’s home in the Bridgepoint subdivision when she left walking. She was last spotted walking on Northshore Parkway in the direction of Spillway Road, according to sheriff’s deputies.

Law enforcement officers and members of the Rankin County Emergency Management Agency searched the Northshore Parkway Causeway. Her purse was found on rocks off the roadway, and her body was found in the Reservoir.

They said her death seems to be accidental, but her body was sent to the crime lab; they are waiting for the autopsy results to determine a cause of death.
