Access to mental healthcare in the state scarce

Attorney General Jim Hood says there are problems with the state’s mental healthcare system because there aren’t enough professionals in the field.

UMMC typically graduates four to five medical students who plan to go into a psychiatry residency.

The head of UMMC Psychiatry and Human Behavior, Dr. Scott Rodgers, agrees there are not enough professionals to deal with the load particularly in rural areas of the state.
