JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) — Congressman Bennie Thompson is back in the metro to talk about helping disadvantage farmers.
He was the keynote speaker during the USDA’s Outreach 2501 Partnership Symposium at the Marriot in Jackson. The USDA’s program provides assistance to farmers who are socially disadvantaged and it also helps Veteran farmers and ranchers.
At Monday’s event, the Congressman also shared his thoughts on House Speaker John Boehner’s resignation.
“It’s clear that those folks on the Republican side wanted to try and shut the government down and I think he make a decision that I’m not going through another shutdown. And If that means I have to resign from Congress that’s what I’m going to do. And that’s what he did.”
Thompson is a Democrat while House Speaker Boehner is a Republican.
