Tyree Jones sworn-in as Hinds County Sheriff

Election

HINDS COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – Tyree Jones was sworn-in as Hinds County sheriff on Friday, December 3, 2021.

Jones defeated interim Hinds County Sheriff Marshand Crisler in the runoff election on Tuesday, November 23. The election results were certified by the Hinds County Election Commission Friday afternoon.

According to Jones, his first order of business will be to work on the Hinds County Detention Center.

“Of course, the priority right now is to address the issue that we’re currently plagued with right now as it relates to our detention facilities. As you all know, there was a 21 day order that was passed on by a federal judge regarding the status of our detention facilities, so I’ve already been addressing some of the issues. I’ve been meeting with the other parties that are involved to be able to properly respond to that particular ruling that is passed down,” he stated.

Jones said another item on his agenda was creating partnerships with other local law enforcement agencies in hopes of lowering the crime rate in Jackson.
