Digital First: Flooding in Jackson metro area

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – The National Weather Service said the Pearl River is expected to crest at 35 feet Sunday afternoon.

Barnett Reservoir officials will continue to store water in the 33,000 acre lake.

Despite another round of heavy rain on Saturday, forecast models did not show an increase in the expected crest.


JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Several streets in the Jackson metro area flooded Saturday morning.

This comes as the Pearl River is expected to crest at 35 feet this weekend.

The pictures below show flooding on South West Street and Nichols Avenue in Jackson.

According to reports, the Swinging Bridge in Byram is close to be taken over by water. Both ends of the bridge are underwater as the Pearl River continues to rise.
