Former Ole Miss head coach and player Billy Brewer died at the age of 83 on Saturday.
Brewer led the Rebels to five bowl appearances during his run as coach from 1983-1993. He won 67 games over 11 seasons, including three bowls. Brewer was named SEC Coach of the Year four times. He is the second-longest tenured coach in program history.
The Columbus native also coached at Southeastern Louisiana and Louisiana Tech. His overall college head coaching record stands at 124-95-6.
As a player, Brewer played multiple positions at Ole Miss from 1957-1960. His most success came as a defensive back, garnering All-SEC honors. Ole Miss named him to its Team of the Century in 1993.
In 2017, the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame announced Brewer as a member of its Class of 2018. He was set to be inducted on July 28.
