Up in Germantown, the boys powerlifting team has taken home the 5A state championship in back-to-back years.
They said it’s something they couldn’t have done without their coaches.
“They are the reason we are as strong as we are and they are the reason we continue to get stronger as the year went on,” said junior powerlifter Luke Larry.
“Last year we had a lot more people, this year we had one or two less and we just defied the odds with 6 people, we still came out on top,” said senior Hayden Shook.
“Last year, I didn’t even make it past the invitationals in Pearl, to this year gaining a little bit of weight so I could go up a weight class and I ended up winning state in that weight class,” junior Jalen Cooke said. “All that goes to these two amazing coaches.”
