Gun Shop Owner Reacts to Controversial Sign

News

A sign first seen at the Jackson gun show has sparked controversy everywhere. The sign was created by Tim Wolverton, owner of Down the Range Sporting Goods.

“I was really surprised. I thought it was just going to be the people at the gun show. I had no idea it was going to go viral,” Wolverton said.

That’s exactly what it did. A photo of this sign hit the internet and his been circulating the web ever since; Getting strong reactions on both sides. So why was it created in the first place? Wolverton said he was beyond offended by the comments made by councilman Kenneth Stokes.

“It was out of the total lack of respect for our law enforcement from Kenneth Stokes,” Wolverton said.

He’s talking about that now infamous press conference held by the Ward 3 leader, who suggested throwing bottles, bricks and rocks and law enforcers from other jurisdictions, in purist through Jackson.

“I just kind of did it as a joke thinking I would get a little humor out of it and maybe aggravate him and a few other people,” Wolverton said.

So he acted on his frustrations, but in the process he has now offended thousands of people himself.  It reads: “IF you voted for Kenneth Stokes or President Obama, you’re too stupid to own a gun. Please Find another dealer.”

He says President Barack Obama was added for his stance on wanting stricter gun laws in America. Wolverton says his intention was never to offend anyone and now he’s questioning whether or not he should have made the design.

“I have thousands of people begging me for the signs saying they would pay anything for them, but I don’t think I should do that,” Wolverton said. “If people are truly offended by it, I don’t want to offend anybody, but I’m also not saying sorry for anything I have done.”
