Hopson says his offense has to establish the run better

Southern Miss struggled on the road in its week seven loss against North Texas.

The Golden Eagles lone score came in the 2nd quarter, a 44 yard touchdown pass to Quez Watkins to tie up the game.

Head coach Jay Hopson addressed an number of issues his team needs to fix, but none are more pressing than the running game, which accounted for only 50 yards.

“One thing we have to do, we have to establish the run better than we have early in the season, Hopson said. “That’s something we’ve been able to do the previous two years, we’ve got to do that. I think everybody has a piece of that action.”

Since the departure of running back Ito Smith, Southern Miss has struggled on the ground this season. But, Hopson says he believes in his current group of running backs and thinks they can still turn the corner.
