WARREN COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) — A stretch of Highway 80 near Mt. Alban Road in Warren County is closed in both directions due to a road collapse.
The Mississippi Department of Transportation reported the collapse happened at about midnight. Crews closed the road at 1:00 a.m.
The shoulder was washed up from all the heavy rainfall over here as you can see this left the road unprotected causing it to collapse.
Public Information Officer Michael Flood said that timing is not yet clear as far as repairs go.
“Right now we’re just evaluating the extent of damage done to that roadway,” Flood said. “Once we have an assessment on the level of damage done to the road we’ll be able to determine what part of the road is damaged — the road bed and the soil underneath
MDOT said Highway 80 will be closed until further notice. They advise drivers to use an alternate route, such as I-20.
