Jackson State alumna wins Academy Award for work on “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom”

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Jackson State alumna Mia Neal won an Academy Award on Sunday for her work in “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.”

Neal and Jamika Wilson became the first Black women in Oscars history to win for Best Makeup and Hairstyling in a film.

According to Jackson State University, Neal served as the film’s hair and wig designer and hair department chief.
